Anna University Admissions 2025-26: NRI / FN / (LDC / SIDS) / CIWGC Category (B.E./B.Tech./B.Plan.)

Anna University offers admission to B.E./B.Tech./B.Plan. degree programmes in its University Departments (CEG, ACT, MIT, and SAP Campuses) under the following categories for the academic year 2025-26:

  • Non-Resident Indian (NRI)
  • Foreign Nationals (FN)
  • Nationals of Least Developed Countries (LDC) & Small Island Developing States (SIDS)
  • Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries (CIWGC)  

These are supernumerary seats, meaning they are in addition to the regular intake.



1. Seat Allocation:

  • FN / (LDC / SIDS) Category: 5% of the sanctioned seats in each branch are allocated for Foreign Nationals, and another 5% for Nationals of LDC & SIDS. Unfilled seats in either category can be moved to the other during the second phase of counselling.
  • NRI Category: The number of seats allocated for the NRI category is also supernumerary but the exact percentage might vary. Refer to the official instructions for details.
  • CIWGC Category: A specific number of supernumerary seats are also allocated under this category. The exact number will be mentioned in the admission notification.

2. Eligibility Criteria:

General Eligibility for all Categories:

  • The candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) (Academic) or its equivalent examination.
  • They must have obtained the prescribed minimum eligibility marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics put together. The specific percentage will be announced in the admission notification.
  • Candidates from certain Foreign Boards (like GCE 'A' level, International Baccalaureate) are also eligible. Refer to the detailed instructions for the list of recognized qualifications.
  • Age Limit: There is usually no age limit for these categories.

Specific Eligibility for each Category:

  • NRI:
    • Candidates must be Non-Resident Indians.
    • They will need to provide proof of their NRI status, such as the passport and visa of the parent working abroad or relevant documents confirming their NRI status.
    • Proof of financial support (parent's bank statement for the last six months or scholarship offer letter) might be required.
  • FN:
    • Candidates must be Foreign Nationals.
    • It is their responsibility to submit a valid Student Visa / PIO / OCI card at the time of admission.
    • They also need to provide proof of financial support.
  • LDC / SIDS:
  • CIWGC:
    • Candidates must be the children of Indian workers in Gulf Countries. The Gulf Countries are typically considered as: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
    • They need to provide relevant documents to prove the employment of their parent in one of these Gulf countries (e.g., passport with visa endorsement, employment certificate).

3. Mode of Selection:

  • Admission for all these categories is based on the marks obtained in the prescribed subjects (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry or equivalent) in the qualifying examination (XII Standard or equivalent), reduced to a total of 200 marks (Mathematics: 100, Physics + Chemistry: 100).
  • An overall merit list will be prepared for each category based on these marks.
  • Eligible candidates will be called for counselling in the order of merit.
  • There is no communal reservation followed for allotment under these categories.

4. Application Process:

  • Candidates must apply only through the online mode via the official web portal: https://cfa.annauniv.edu/cfa/.
  • Registration: Create a user account using a valid email ID.
  • Online Payment: Pay the prescribed non-refundable application fee online. The fee amount will be specified in the admission notification.
  • Filling the Application: Provide all the required details accurately.
  • Uploading Documents: Scanned copies of the following documents (in PDF format, maximum file size 2MB) must be uploaded:
    • Passport of the candidate.
    • Valid Student Visa / PIO / OCI card (for FN, if available). Otherwise, it should be produced at the time of admission.
    • Proof of Financial support (parent's bank statement for the last six months or scholarship offer letter).
    • Mark sheet of HSC or Equivalent Examination (XI and XII).
    • Mark Sheet of X Standard.
    • Transfer Certificate / Migration Certificate.  
    • Relevant documents to prove the specific category (NRI status, parent's employment in Gulf countries, citizenship of LDC/SIDS).
    • Any other documents as specified in the official instructions.
  • Submission: After uploading all documents and paying the fee, submit the online application.
